The Benefits of Dance for Young Children
At the School of Dance and Music we want to instil our passion and love of dance into all of our students from an early age. Our main goal for our youngest dancers is to enhance their enthusiasm for dance.
Dance provides an essential educational experience. Through dance classes, children gain improved physical fitness, and with technology creating more sedentary activities for children as young as toddler age, it is our responsibility to help ensure kids get the exercise they need. Dance enhances poise and grace, improves balance, co-ordination and agility, increases body awareness, kinaesthetic comfort and ease, improves alignment, flexibility and neurological patterning, and develops spatial awareness.
Dance classes develop teamwork and social skills, providing opportunities to lead, share and respond to others. Academically speaking, in a session of creative dance for preschoolers, your child can be exposed to most of the basic academic bases they’ll climb to in their primary education. They’ll tackle these new ideas not through tests and standards, but through fun, playful and engaging activities. Dance teaches children to listen, take turns, follow directions, and learn new vocabulary. Dance enhances linguistic and aural skills and improves attention span and memory.
Becoming a skilled dancer requires practice, discipline and focus, skills that are vital in every area of your child’s life. It is our aim to provide our students with these skills, along with the tools to appreciate, enjoy and participate in dance for a lifetime.
